Open Stage with Reena Rock and the Jersey City Free Public Library brings music to the park. Currently held on Wednesday nights in Canco Park located in the Marion Arts District of Jersey City. A call went out to local residents to bring a talent. Jugglers, singers, musicians, poets, magic acts and mimes included. If you got a talent... we wanna see it. Get your fifteen minutes of fame on the Canco Park green stage. We had no idea what to expect.
The first thirty minutes was carried by the host Reena Rock playing guitar and telling anecdotes until a neighbor from the nearby building came over with his acoustic guitar. Politely he said his name was Vinee and he wanted to sing a song. Vinee to the rescue. No one was prepared for what was going to happen next.
Vinee aka Vineel Mahal www.instagram.com/vinudlmahudl killed it with his rendition of Donizetti's "Una Furtiva Lagrima".
After Vinee broke the ice, he brought up another classically trained vocalist Mheco Manlangit www.instagram.com/mhecomanlangit and accompanied her on Puccini's "O Mio Babbino Caro".
In just one note we were all suddenly transported into another time and place. I held my breath not wanting the night to end.
Thank you Vinee and Mheco for a night of opera in Canco Park that we won't soon forget. See you next Wednesday at 6PM ? Check our Facebook www.facebook.com/CancoPark
